Forget Epstein. Forget tariffs. Forget racist memes. If the Democrats couldn't get Trump tried and convicted for attempting to overthrow the government, they certainly are not going to stop him from stealing the November election.
And while peaceful protests and writing your Congressman are helpful, as are recording ICE bullies who beat up and kill innocent citizens, they will not stop Trump from pounding the last nail into the coffin of the democratic process known as the right to vote.
(Loud Speaker On: Democrats, Wake Up!) Think like a cornered rat! Think like a gangster! Think like Trump! The Evil Orange Clown knows that if the Democrats win the House and maybe even the Senate in the November election, he could be impeached. And if he's impeached, he could be tried for his various crimes and go to jail.
Do you think Trump wants to spend the final years of his life in jail? Do you think he won't do everything in his power to prevent that from happening? Do you think he will be the least bit threatened by lawsuits or congressional hearings or peaceful protests?
In addition, don't you think he will use ICE, his own private army, to make sure -- one way or another -- he wins on Election Day? And what will you do if Trump sends in ICE to "surround the polls," as Steve Bannon has suggested? What will you do if Trump calls a national security emergency and tries to intercede in the voting procedures? And what will you do if he invokes the Insurrection Act of 1807 and sends the military in to change the outcome of the election?
So far, only Larry Krasner, the DA from Philly, has taken these questions seriously. "If you commit crime in the city of Philadelphia," he warned ICE, "I will do everything in my power to make sure you're arrested, brought to trial, and convicted."
In other words, he will use the local police to arrest ICE agents for breaking the law, you know, like killing innocent citizens, or trying to take over the voting booths on Election Day.
Despite the Big Silence from Democrats and the Mainstream Media, there are laws that sanction the use of local police to arrest federal officers.
Until now, all we've heard is why local police can't arrest them, citing the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, which states that cities and states generally cannot interfere with federal officials (like ICE agents) as long as they are lawfully and constitutionally carrying out their jobs.
And that is the loophole - "lawfully and constitutionally." Are killing innocent civilians lawfully and constitutionally doing their jobs? What about breaking into a person's home without a warrant? And how could it possibly be lawful or constitutional for ICE agents to strong-arm citizens at a polling place or intervene to change the outcome of a national election?
(Loud Speaker Turned Up: Are You Listening, Dems?) According to U.S. Federal Law 18 U.S.C. - 592, if a federal official (like Trump or Noem or Homan) "has under his (or her) authority or control any troops or armed men at any place where a general or special election is held, unless such force be necessary to repel armed enemies of the United States, (this official) shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."
Does this law mean that Trump will be deterred by it? Does it mean it will prevent him from "surrounding the polls" with ICE agents, as Bannon has suggested. Or prevent him from manufacturing a phony excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act and send in troops? I think everyone knows the answer to this.
So what's left? State and city officials, like governors, DAs, and mayors, must strategize and prepare local police to arrest ICE agents or any other of Trump's desperadoes if they descend on polling places during the November election and try to change the outcome of the vote. Simple as that!
Could this precipitate violence between local cops and Trump's private army? Possibly. But what's the alternative? Allow Trump to steal the election and bury the last vestige of democracy for as long as he lives?
As Thomas Jefferson once noted, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
Unless things change radically in the next several months, this could be one of those times.
