AlterNet Crooks and Liars Daily Kos (Note: these articles are from RSS News Feeds websites, and are deleted after 30 days, April 23, 2025 at 5:06 PM EDT Actor Sebastion Stan is confident President Donald Trump saw 'The Apprentice', even if it showed audiences the makings of "a monster." Last October, Trump railed the movie on Truth Social, calling it "a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job." He added: "So sad that HUMAN SCUM, like the people involved in this hopefully unsuccessful enterprise, are allowed to say and do whatever they want." April 23, 2025 at 4:18 PM EDT Arkansas Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders -- who was once President Donald Trump's White House press secretary -- is now urging him to reverse his administration's denial of her disaster relief request. Rolling Stone reported Wednesday that Sanders' initial request for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following severe storms in her state was denied. She's since written a separate letter begging her former boss to intervene and reverse the denial. April 23, 2025 at 4:08 PM EDT Disclosures filed this week show that lobbying firms with close ties to U.S. President Donald Trump's White House have seen business surge at the start of 2025, with one group that used to employ Trump's chief of staff and attorney general more than doubling its first-quarter revenue compared to last year. Ballard Partners, a firm led by a Trump donor, reported $14 million in lobbying revenue in the first three months of this year, up from $6.2 million during the same time in 2024. April 23, 2025 at 3:48 PM EDT Atlantic writer Thomas Schmidt predicts an imminent stand-off between the courts and President Donald Trump, but only Trump has literal guns. Judges say the president is willing to act in ways that "should be shocking not only to judges, but to the intuitive sense of liberty that Americans ... hold dear," by disregarding court orders. Schmidt says the administration is clearly content to continue "along a path of stubborn resistance rather than accommodation. April 23, 2025 at 11:48 AM EDT Kristina Wong, a correspondent for the far-right Breitbart News who has publicly glorified the January 6, 2021 insurrection, was appointed chief spokesperson for the Department of the Navy, where she will also serve as Director of Communications for Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan. In a post on the social platform X on Tuesday, Phelan announced her appointment. April 23, 2025 at 11:48 AM EDT I want to suggest today that what we are seeing on Wall Street and in markets around the world is the sudden realization that the president is mentally unstable - that he has dementia, probably - and as a result of that realization, investors no longer have any faith in Donald Trump. Yes, I know. April 23, 2025 at 11:21 AM EDT North Carolina showed how much of a swing state it is when, in 2024, voters elected a Democratic governor, Josh Stein, but favored Republican Donald Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris by roughly 3.5 percent in the presidential race. And the competition for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court was a real nail-biter, with Democratic Justice Allison Riggs defeating Republican Judge Jefferson Griffin by only 735 votes. Griffin, however, never conceded and is hoping to overturn the election results if he can get enough votes thrown out. April 23, 2025 at 10:42 AM EDT Critics of President Donald Trump's steep new tariffs have been warning that a variety of bad things could occur if he doesn't reconsider, from inflation to a deep recession to a weakening of the U.S. dollar to burning bridges with longtime U.S. allies all over the world. But on Monday, April 21, another troubling possibility was raised: "empty shelves" at major retail chains. According to Axios reporters Marc Caputo and Ben Berkowitz, the CEOs of three major retail chains -- Target, Walmart and Home Depot -- "privately warned" Trump "that his tariff and trade policy could disrupt supply chains, raise prices and empty shelves, according to sources familiar with the meeting." April 23, 2025 at 10:34 AM EDT Those of us who study trade and investment for a living are, I suspect, becoming exasperated with both the White House stance on tariffs and the way that this is reported in much of the media. US president Donald Trump believes that if a country has a trade surplus with the US it is somehow playing unfairly and needs to be dealt with. But anyone who understands the basics of international economics will recognise the fallacy in both of these beliefs. April 23, 2025 at 6:00 AM EDT Donald Trump's approval ratings are dropping fast. He's underwater in every poll, with a majority disapproving. In a CBS poll released over the weekend, 59% of Americans said the economy is bad and getting worse. And a majority lays it at the feet of Trump, clearly seeing the chaos he unleashed with tariffs as a disaster, with 54% saying Trump's policies are more to blame for the bad economy and only 21 percent saying the blame is with Joe Biden. April 23, 2025 at 5:52 AM EDT The clear-cutting across the federal government under President Donald Trump has been dramatic, with mass terminations, the suspension of decades-old programs and the neutering of entire agencies. But this spectacle has obscured a series of moves by the administration that could profoundly harm some of the most vulnerable people in the U.S.: children. Consider: The staff of a program that helps millions of poor families keep the electricity on, in part so that babies don't die from extreme heat or cold, have all been fired. The federal office that oversees the enforcement of child support payments has been hollowed out. Head Start preschools, which teach toddlers their ABCs and feed them healthy meals, will likely be forced to shut down en masse, some as soon as May 1. And funding for investigating child sexual abuse and internet crimes against children; responding to reports of missing children; and preventing youth violence has been withdrawn indefinitely. April 23, 2025 at 5:43 AM EDT There is an unfortunate tendency for those of us on the so-called "left" to assume that thinkers and pundits on the "right" disagree with us about Trump. But what is occurring these days transcends left or right. It is now a matter of democracy or tyranny. More and more of those on the so-called "right" are condemning the Trump regime with almost as much vehemence as you and I condemn it. |
