The reason the revelations of quantum physics are not taken seriously by the intelligentsia of the Western World is because those revelations seem to only apply to experiments with subatomic particles or to the far-flung theories of astrophysics. Quantum physics has found no foothold in the practical world of everyday living. So basically what I am saying is, Western science is still stuck in a 19th century world view where rationalism and its shadow, materialism, predominate the working blueprint of reality on which all practical systems and analytic thinking are based. In other words, the Western World is going nowhere fast. Jung, in introducing the acausal connecting principle of synchronicity to the Western World (in the early 1950s) was trying to correct this massive stasis in the evolution of Western consciousness. His great achievement was to reexamine what the alchemists were actually doing in the 11th - 16th centuries. Only he missed something. They weren't just projecting the process of individuation on their experiments with sublimating matter, they were engaged in synchronizing individuation with material sublimation, so they were actually practicing quantum science albeit in a Medieval milieu. Still, medieval or not, their quasi-science was less primitive than modern science that ignores the principles of quantum mechanics that should have exploded the 19th century underpinnings of materialism. The alchemists saw that matter was animated by spirit. But what is the common thread that runs through quantum theory, the acausal principle of synchronicity and the ancient protoscience of alchemy? It is the discovery that consciousness affects matter! Materialists believe that matter is inanimate, which leads to the extrapolation that our bodies are nothing but complex biological machines! And that the body of Earth is little more than an inanimate resource for technology. This mind-bog is not just a problem, it is a tragedy because we are the victims of this hubris of this,mostly male, apartheid of science and spirit. It is this kind of thinking that blinds us to how we are living in a world teeming with miracles! So, tragically, we live in a little corner of our potential that modern science says is all there is.
