Don't say I am a force to be reckoned with
Just because I kicked in a door once.
Don't think that I am brave
Because I saved a dog from its abusive owner.
(It's just that my love for animals
Is stronger than my fear of bullies.)
Don't say I am wise because
Something I said would happen, happened.
Or that I was reborn
Because I survived a near-death experience.
(I didn't choose to go on living
And the doctors get all the credit for my recovery.)
Don't say I'm a good dancer either.
I'm just someone who lets the music move me.
And please, don't say I'm a good, decent man.
I know that people see what they want to see.
Don't tell people I'm one of the smartest people you know.
I've already forgotten half the words I used to know.
The truth is, if you saw what I saw
When I look in the mirror
You wouldn't think so highly of me.
To myself I look like an old chief
Who hasn't vision quested for too long.
I am not who you think I am.
You see, I'm 75, and I never loved my enemy,
And I never did anything
To stop the destruction of the rainforest.
