Surrendersurrender

What does surrender mean?

We who take such great store in winning.

What if we need to just stop

And plant our flags of surrender?

(Surrender our corner on "right",

On food. On wealth. On power.

On being special. On being chosen?)

That sounds like more than one surrender.

Well, I guess so!

And once we learn how to surrender those things

That we identified with,

Maybe we can learn how to talk.

And even how to walk.

Talk to each other, our neighbors,

Animals, people from far away.

Goggle says that if you add an 's' to surrender

That it becomes a verb.

But let the compound word,

"Surrendersurrender" be our teacher.

Many surrenders make one big surrender.

Surrenders to life. Surrenders to love.

Surrenders to creativity and diversity

And gentleness and truth.

Oh, this poem is a crazy one.

It asks us to be gentle

When we already feel vulnerable.

I don't know if I can follow this one.

I don't know if I should say this.

People won't take this seriously.

It's like Gertrude Stein all over again.

Think about it. Make your surrendersurrender!

Let us plant our white flags in the burning earth
