Elon Musk spent millions of dollars to make sure liberal judge Susan Crawford did not win a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the first major battleground state election of Trump's second term. Musk wasted his money.
Crawford won, maintaining liberals' narrow majority.
Crawford, a Dane County circuit judge who was backed by Democrats, secured a 10-year term on the court over Brad Schimel, a Waukesha County circuit judge and a former Republican attorney general, according to NBC News.
The Associated Press reported, that Crawford "overcame $25 million in spending from Elon Musk and defeated her conservative opponent in a totemic contest that became a critical test of the nation's prevailing political winds."
The NY Times called the win "a jolt of momentum...for Democrats."
Emily's List called the results, "a powerful victory for abortion rights, voting rights, and election integrity" and stated, "Despite this completely unprecedented influx of money from megadonors, the people of Wisconsin made clear: they will not be influenced by billionaire donors. Wisconsinites rejected Musk's attempts to manipulate their court and instead chose a candidate who represents fairness, integrity, and justice for all, Judge Susan Crawford."
