There is a lot of talk about impeachment of trump, but that's just the symbolic gesture since there will not be the two-thirds majority needed to actually remove him. I think it would be a waste of time that could be better applied to doing things that could actually stop Trump and even reverse what he's already perpetrated.

So I asked Gemini AI to list 10 things that could be worse for Trump than impeachment. Here's what it came up with:

* Total Freeze on Judicial Nominees and Executive Appointments

* The Mechanism: Article II, Section 2 requires Senate "Advice and Consent." The Senate Majority Leader controls the floor schedule by simple majority.

* Why It Is Worse: The executive cannot compel a floor vote. A Democratic Senate can refuse to confirm appellate and district judges, cabinet secretaries, agency heads, and U.S. Attorneys, leaving key federal courts vacant and executive branch agencies under temporary "acting" leadership with legally vulnerable authority.

* Unilateral Subpoenas for Private Financial and Business Records

* The Mechanism: Committee chairs in the House and Senate hold independent, unilateral subpoena authority (Trump v. Mazars).

* Why It Is Worse: Executive privilege does not extend to private third parties. Congressional committees can subpoena banks, accounting firms, tax preparers, lenders, and business partners directly to compel production of personal assets, debts, foreign business transactions, and balance sheets.

* Mandatory Production of Federal Tax Returns (26 U.S. Code - 6103(f))

* The Mechanism: Federal law explicitly mandates that the Treasury Secretary shall furnish tax returns upon written request from the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee or the Senate Finance Committee.

* Why It Is Worse: The Supreme Court affirmed this statutory authority in 2022 (Ways and Means v. Trump). A Democratic chair can obtain full personal and business tax returns, review them in closed executive session, and vote by simple committee majority to submit them into the public Congressional Record.

* Speech or Debate Clause Immunity for Public Record Disclosures

* The Mechanism: Article I, Section 6 provides absolute legal protection to members of Congress for any speech or legislative act performed in either chamber or during committee proceedings.

* Why It Is Worse: Members can read non-public whistleblowing documents, unredacted executive communications, or sensitive agency records directly into the Congressional Record. The executive branch has no legal authority to seek court injunctions or retaliate against lawmakers for these disclosures (Gravel v. United States).
