This piece of artwork, Preamble, 1987, by Mike Wilkins, is so appropriate for the Fourth of July holiday. It is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Painted metal on vinyl and wood, 96 x 96 in. (243.8 x 243.8 cm.) All fifty states and the District of Columbia are represented, in alphabetical order.
