Joe directs alumni affairs and helps coordinate public relations at the University of the District of Columbia's David A. Clarke School of Law, a public interest law school in Washington, DC (www.law.udc.edu) He earned his B.A. from Princeton in 1979 where he ran track and was active in anti-hunger and pro-divestment in South Africa activism. He spent three years in California working and volunteering on on a broad spectrum of progressive issues. After graduating from the Antioch School of Law in 1985, he served as Coordinator for the successful campaign to turn it into the District of Columbia's public law school and was elected by alumni to serve on the Board of Governors of the DC School of Law. He founded and directed the justice and ecology-oriented Metro D.C. Environmental Network from 1990 to 1997 before returning to work at the School of Law. In 1994, he co-founded the consensus-based Gibson Hollow LLC, which continues to run an ecological retreat in the Shenandoah Mountains. He was a founding National Advisory Board Member of the Progressive Democrats of America, is a local community and environmental activist, an avid organic gardener, a bicycle commuter, and and wild edibles forager. He is happily married and the father of two fabulous young adult daughters who take turns driving him crazy and into fits of rapture.
