Elections are broken. Here's how we fix them

A supermajority of Americans support ditching the Electoral College in favor of using popular vote, yet few in the mainstream media have taken the idea seriously. But now, thanks to the unlikely coalition of Democrats and Republicans driving a fresh round of advocacy, it's becoming a regular topic of debate over at The Washington Post and on liberal and conservative cable news networks. There has been good reason to be skeptical about the campaign to institute a national popular vote. The two main routes of doing this would be to amend the Constitution""the best way""or by states joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. In the latter route, once states with a combined 270 electoral votes join the compact, they give those votes to the winner of the national popular vote in an election, essentially rendering the Electoral College irrelevant.

Transportation chief was a 'Road Rules' champ""but he's scared of subways

Republicans are generally disdainful of mass transit, in no small part because they are climate deniers and mass transit is associated with reducing pollution, a thing they do not care about at all. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is unusually fixated on the perils of mass transit, even for a Trump Cabinet member. Duffy doesn't just hate public transportation, he seems to be terrified by the mere prospect of a big-city subway.

Black Music Sunday: Let's celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month

Black Music Sunday is a weekly series highlighting all things Black music, with over 260 stories covering performers, genres, history, and more, each featuring its own vibrant soundtrack. I hope you'll find some familiar tunes and perhaps an introduction to something new. It's officially Caribbean American Heritage Month, and it's important to not only celebrate Caribbean American musicians, but to also take a look at the broad variety of musical genres rooted in Caribbean cultures that have been brought to the United States through immigration.
