Karoline Leavitt pitches non-existent tax 'rebates' as Trump approval hits new low

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that Americans will receive tax "rebates" next year, and promised they will see "bigger paychecks and lower prices" in 2026, while attacking Democrats as "con artists." "This is going to be President Trump's bread and butter issue: focused on the economy," Leavitt told "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday. "Nobody knows it better than him."

Why MAGA is still clinging to conspiracy theories about pipe bomb suspect despite arrest

Well after President Donald Trump pardoned the roughly 1,500 defendants arrested, charged and/or convicted as part of the January 6 2021 siege of the U.S. Capitol, the person who left pipe bombs outside the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican National Committee offices remained at large. But even after an arrest has been made in the case, conspiracy theories about the alleged pipe bomber continue to run rampant. In a Monday article for The Bulwark, writer Will Sommer observed that conspiracy theories about the January 6 attempted pipe bombing were being trafficked even by people who are now members of the Trump administration: FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino alleged in a January 2025 episode of his podcast (prior to his appointment) that the would-be bomber was part of an "inside job."

These 3 Trump Cabinet officials may be 'on borrowed time': report

President Donald Trump may be preparing to clean house in 2026, starting with three major Cabinet officials. That's according to a Monday article in the Daily Beast, which reported that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and FBI Director Kash Patel are apparently "on borrowed time." The Beast reported that Trump could be waiting until the one-year anniversary of his second inauguration -- which would be January 20, 2026 -- before making any big changes atop federal agencies. However, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson adamantly denied that any Cabinet secretaries were in danger of being fired.

'Donald Trump is in hell': President's 'greatest triumph' soured by 'very weird' ceremony

President Donald Trump hosted the first Kennedy Center Honors ceremony of his second term last weekend, and one reporter in attendance described the night as "very weird." In a Monday article in The Atlantic, writer Alexandra Petri noted that she had always been "obsessed" with the Kennedy Center Honors in the way others may be fascinated by the Oscars or the Grammys, and jumped at the chance to attend the 2025 ceremony. However, she said that this year's ceremony -- now that Trump has taken over the vaunted institution by installing himself as chairman and replacing the bulk of the organization's board with his own handpicked associates -- felt different [ emphasis Petri's ].

'So unpopular with the public': MAGA governor breaks with Trump on key issue

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) became the latest Republican to break with President Donald Trump on a key issue, arguing that a recent order could not override state government authority and that it would be "unpopular with the public." DeSantis took to X to push back against Trump's recently announced plan to block state-level regulations on artificial intelligence (AI). Per a Monday report in Politico, the governor has emerged as a "fierce AI skeptic" as the technology has grown in prominence, and has been pushing for his state to pass laws that will create consumer protections related to it.

President Donald Trump tried to backpedal on last week's promise to release full video of a second boat strike some are calling unlawful, when cornered by a reporter he subsequently denounced as "obnoxious" and "terrible." Video shows that Trump did promise to release the full video, telling reporters last Wednesday, "whatever they have, we'd certainly release."

'This is sick': Nicolle Wallace slams Trump over 'verbal violence' toward female reporters

President Donald Trump once again insulted a female journalist to her face in the Oval Office, and MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace is now calling on White House reporters to stand up for their colleagues. On Monday, Trump called ABC News' Rachel Scott "obnoxious" after she asked him a question about his prior promise to release the video of the controversial September 2 strike on a boat in the Caribbean Sea (which he has since recanted). After he insulted Scott, the president deferred to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the matter of the video.

GOP strategist says Republicans in 'deep trouble' as key voting bloc jumps ship

President Donald Trump and Republicans overall are in "deep, deep trouble," according to one moderate conservative strategist, as Latino voters continue to abandon the GOP in "significant" numbers, with two key issues most likely to blame. Mike Madrid is a moderate Republican political strategist, known as one of the co-founders of the anti-Trump political action committee, The Lincoln Project. On Monday, Madrid made an appearance on CNN, where he was pressed about a recent Pew Research survey, which found that 7 in 10 Latinos disapprove of Trump's performance as president in his second term so far. Among those Latinos who voted for Trump in 2024, nearly a third, 3 in 10, said they disapproved.

Nancy Mace gives Republicans 'hard truth' they 'don't want to hear'

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), who is leaving Congress to run for governor of South Carolina, is firing some parting shots at her Republican colleagues. In a Monday op-ed for the New York Times, Mace called out her party's leadership for failing to effectively govern despite having majorities in both the House and Senate. She accused the GOP of promoting members to leadership based on politics, rather than how effective they were at passing legislation. And she railed against leaders keeping bills secret from members until it was time to vote.

GOP lawmaker twists himself in knots trying to excuse Trump's rhetoric in CNN segment

Indiana state Rep. Andrew Ireland, a Republican, is downplaying the idea that President Donald Trump's social media attacks have any real influence on people making threats against lawmakers in his state. Indiana Republicans who are unwilling to redraw congressional lines mid-cycle to help the GOP maintain the House majority are now facing swatting attempts and bomb threats, but Ireland insists these incidents are unrelated to Trump's rhetoric on Truth Social.

Alito sits out Supreme Court case decision involving Trump

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sat out of the court's consideration regarding a petition against President Donald Trump, according to Newsweek. The case, filed by plaintiff Dr. Mac Truong, who has filed several lawsuits against political leaders in addition to Trump including Vice President JD Vance, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, "saw the petition for a writ of certiorari dismissed with Justice Alito explicitly taking 'no part' in the matter," Newsweek reports.
