Is it Kurt Waldheim becoming Secretary-General of the United Nations or Hewlett-Packard introducing the first scientific hand-held calculator (price in 1972 dollars, $395)? Maybe it's a bunch of Libertarians inventing a micronation they called the Republic of Minerva. The US probe Mariner 9 sending us pictures as it orbited Mars. The Soviet probe Venera 8 surviving on the surface of Venus long enough to transmit data back to Earth for nearly an hour. This was the year 92nd U.S. Congress voted to send the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the states for ratification, Iraq nationalized the Iraq Petroleum Company and some burglars were arrested in a posh Washington hotel.

C&L's Late Nite Music Club: Leonard Cohen 'Anthem'

Leonard Cohen once recounted a story to The New Yorker editor David Remnick about a drive he took with Bob Dylan. During their trip, Dylan recalled a time another famous songwriter had once told him, "Bob, you're Number 1, but I'm Number 2." Dylan turned to Cohen and said, "As far as I'm concerned, Leonard, you're Number 1. I'm Number Zero." Cohen said he took Dylan's remark to mean that Dylan's own work was "beyond measure," while Cohen's was "pretty good." It was the kind of praise Cohen could accept from the legendary songwriter he had been compared to throughout his career.

Donald J. Trump spent Friday night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner doing what he does best: congratulating someone to their face and insulting them in the same breath. Addressing CNN's Kaitlan Collins, who was there to receive a WHCA award for her reporting, Trump offered his congratulations -- then immediately clarified that he didn't mean it. "It was all about me," he told the room. "It's a fake; she shouldn't get the award." From there, the President moved on to his next order of business: telling a woman to smile. What Is Trump DOJ So Desperate To Hide From NM Epstein Investigation?

Jeffrey Epstein's Zorro ranch in New Mexico was mentioned more than 13,000 times in the Epstein files. But acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Jay Clayton, US attorney for the Southern District of New York, each of whom is a nominee for permanent Trump cabinet positions, have only turned over 31 pages of non-useful information. They are stonewalling the rest of it. NM Attorney General Raúl Torrez told MS Now on Thursday night why his office is on the verge of suing the DOJ for its failure to cooperate. As Torrez explained, New Mexico "stood down" its 2019 state investigation into Epstein crimes at the request of the Southern District of New York. The SDNY had agreed to refer back to NM any state-related matters once its case concluded.
