Cartoon: Science Korner

It was recently revealed that Larry Summers joked about women having lower IQs in an email to Jeffrey Epstein. I find Summers' narrow fixation on biological determinism fascinating because it's emblematic of the pseudoscience posing as "hard truth" at the center of the current reactionary moment. The above cartoon is actually from 2005 -- I made a couple updates and colored the strip, which only existed in black and white. Trump brags about soaring prices

President Donald Trump is losing America, as his inability to focus on affordability is fueling his continued downward slide in the polls.  As Americans clamor for relief from high prices, Trump would rather pressure Hollywood to make movies he likes. And when he does focus on affordability? Well, it's to brag about how prices are about to go up.

Trump's Homeland Security goons are fighting the wrong crimes

The Trump administration has done a tremendous job of staffing its brutal crackdown on immigrants. But it turns out that reassigning everyone to that effort means that the Department of Homeland Security is giving short shrift to fighting actual crime. But hey, at least the government is keeping us safe from tamale vendors and day laborers, right? The New York Times obtained an internal report from Homeland Security Investigations, the division of DHS that is supposed to be focused on conducting federal criminal investigations. Here's HSI itself explaining its mission:

Hegseth's next stupid war? Kids who camp.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reportedly plans to upend decades of military support for the Scouting America in retaliation for the iconic organization's support for gender and racial equality. NPR reported on Tuesday that Hegseth's office has prepared a draft memo to Congress that would pull support for Scouting America, once known as the Boy Scouts, for being "detrimental to national security." Current law compels the Department of Defense to support the scouts unless there is a security risk.

How will Chuck Schumer survive a progressive revolt?

A small but unusually forceful bloc of left-wing senators has begun openly challenging Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's strategy for the 2026 midterms""and his entire posture toward President Donald Trump.  It's an early, unmistakable sign of internal agitation as Democrats brace for another volatile election cycle.

Trump ruins turkey pardon tradition with unhinged murder rant

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump turned the traditional pre-Thanksgiving turkey pardon at the White House into a platform to rant about murder and to air his grievances about Democrats. Historically the pardon has been a lighthearted affair launching the holiday season. But Trump chose a different path.

The Trump phone goes the way of all Trump scams

Back in June, the grifty Trump family launched its Trump-branded cell service and super-luxe Trump T1 smartphone with maximum hype and minimal details. Now, five months later, neither is anywhere to be found.  We were told that the phone would be sleek, gold, made in the United States, and somehow only $499. And you could use your Trump phone on the Trump Mobile service for a mere monthly fee of $47""yes, you know why it's that number. All you had to do to secure one was put down a $100 deposit""because who wouldn't want to do that?
