As the economy spirals, a petulant Trump threatens even more tariffs

Cartoon: State of emergency

What a week. In the immortal words of our philosopher businessman president, "HANK TOUGH!" Which sounds like the name of a 90s action movie protagonist. Fox News has been avoiding economic news like the plague this week, going so far as to take the stock market ticker off their chyron, but eventually even their viewers are going to notice the decimated retirement funds, skyrocketing prices and inevitable global recession.

Fate of deported Maryland dad up in the air after Supreme Court action

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts granted a stay Monday pausing a lower court order that gave the Trump administration until 12 AM Tuesday to return a wrongly deported father of three from a maximum security prison in El Salvador to the U.S. The administrative stay issued by Roberts gives the highest court extra time to issue a final ruling, which is expected in the next few days. Facing the original midnight deadline, the Trump administration on Monday filed a motion arguing that the order to return the Maryland man was an "unprecedented" overstepping of authority by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis.

Treasury secretary wants fired federal staffers to work in factories

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the thousands of federal workers President Donald Trump and co-President Elon Musk have fired will become the workforce in factories Trump says will return to America thanks to his new tariff policy. Bessent made the comment in an interview with right-wing zealot Tucker Carlson, who was trying to build support for Trump's insane tariffs that are tanking global stock markets and raising the odds that the United States sinks into a deep recession.

Democrats investigate Trump's 'illegal shakedown' of law firms

Top Democrats on the House and Senate judiciary committees sent letters to two law firms that struck deals with President Donald Trump to avoid being punished for hiring or representing people who Trump considers enemies. According to the Washington Post, Democrats Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut sent letters to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Willkie Farr & Gallagher, both of which agreed to spend tens of millions of dollars on pro-bono legal work for Trump's pet causes to get back in his good graces.
