NYC mayor makes desperate bid to stay in power""why it won't work

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday that he's running for reelection as an independent""just one day after a federal judge dismissed his pending corruption case. In an unnecessarily long video posted on X Thursday, Adams claimed that even though 25,000 residents had signed his Democratic petition, the "bogus" case against him "dragged on too long," making it impossible to mount a serious campaign in what surely would've been a brutal primary election for him.

RFK Jr. fired veterinarians working on bird flu because he's incompetent

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s purge of almost a quarter of the federal workforce under his control includes senior veterinarians who focus on response to bird flu outbreaks, according to sources that spoke with the Washington Post.  The laid-off veterinarians, who worked under the Food and Drug Administration, included those who designed studies showing that pasteurized milk would kill the virus. This was particularly important as the bird flu rampaged through dairy herds last spring. Officials who oversaw efforts to protect Americans by recalling pet food that may have been contaminated by the avian disease also lost their jobs.

4 GOP senators join Democrats to attack Trump's tariffs on Canada

The Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday issued a rare rebuke of President Donald Trump, when four GOP lawmakers joined every Democrat to cancel the national emergency that Trump declared to justify putting punishing 25% tariffs on Canadian imports. In February, Trump announced he was putting a blanket 25% tariff on Canadian imports, saying the tariffs are a punishment for the country supposedly allowing fentanyl to cross the border into the United States. On March 6, Trump paused those tariffs. But Canada is now subjected to tariffs on cars, aluminum, and steel""which Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said will negatively impact its economy and has vowed to announce retaliatory tariffs.

Musk steers Tesla toward a dim future

Tesla's first-quarter sales in 2025 fell a hefty 13% year over year""and in a climate where global electric vehicle sales are increasing. For comparison, General Motors saw 94% growth in first-quarter EV sales, and Ford was up 12%. Tesla is blaming the retooling of its Model Y compact SUV, but given that Tesla didn't sell all the vehicles it produced (362,615 manufactured and 336,681 delivered), it's clear that the company's problems weren't supply. It's a demand issue.
