And it's not going well for the GOP, with constituents packing into town halls to give the few Republican members brave enough to hold such events a piece of their mind. The latest victim is Rep. Mike Flood, a Republican who represents a district in Nebraska that President Donald Trump carried by 13 points in 2024. That makes Flood's district a safe Republican seat in a typical year, but one that could be competitive if backlash to Trump and the GOP's agenda creates Democratic wave conditions in next year's midterms. August 5, 2025 at 10:30 AM EDT News Corp, which is owned by right-wing media mogul Rupert Murdoch, announced on Monday it plans to launch a California tabloid similar to its New York Post. With the announcement, it is highly likely that the Post and Murdoch intend to bring the racism, misinformation, and just overall shoddy journalism that have been a highlight of the New York paper for decades to the West Coast. The Post's California launch is an attempt to bring right-wing media influence to a solidly Democratic state which has been a stalwart power base for the Democratic Party. Murdoch has owned the Post since 1976, but despite a steady stream of right-wing propaganda and advocacy, both the state and city of New York have remained solidly blue, consistently backing Democratic candidates including former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. You see, he's a very special boy who can sue whomever he wants, but he's also very busy as president, so anyone he sues has to let him do whatever he wants. Sweet setup! Four years ago, Trump sued Mary Trump, his niece, demanding $100 million for what he alleges was an "insidious plot" against him by providing The New York Times with his tax records. The Times' piece revealed the truly legendary amount of tax dodges Trump has used over the years. According to Trump, Mary breached a confidentiality agreement reached as part of a settlement over her grandfather's estate. August 4, 2025 at 8:01 PM EDT Texas Democratic legislators have fled the state to block the GOP's efforts to gerrymander their way to victory; Democratic groups are calling for mid-cycle redraws of congressional districts in blue states to cancel out ongoing Republican attempts at a power grab; and Democratic governors are exploring all of their legal redistricting options in order to fight fire with fire. In sum, Democrats have found the issue to bring the fight to the anti-democratic GOP: preventing Republicans from drawing their way into a loss-proof electorate.
