When most people think about retiring, Chris Herrmann took a different course. With a corporate business background and grandfather of seven, he took a senior gap year. An adventurous journey around the world. Through 23 countries, sleeping in 123 different places, Life was comfortable in Perth, Western Australia. Triggered by the sudden death of his wife of forty years, the reality hit how suddenly life can change. Once dreams and aspirations are gone in an instant. He discovered it's not something that just happens to other people. He was now on his own. His journey took him to amazing destinations and meeting a diverse range of interesting people along the way. Finding himself left literally penniless in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country. And how his experiences with the people he met, like drugs, waste, terrorism have changed his views. He left with no purpose, other than to step out the door, travel and explore. But then how he turned an opportunity he discovered in the middle of the desert to benefiting charities worth around quarter million dollars. And that was just at the beginning of his journey. He returned from his journey with one question. Our young generation are travelling the globe in their thousands. Confident and adventurous experience seeking travelers engaging first hand with other cultures. Why is our generation missing out on all the fun? People were inspired by his story, he wrote a book, The Youthful Art of Midlife Travel. Through sharing the story with the media and talks, other people are now being inspired. From the husband who after reading the story in a Saturday's newspaper, messaged his wife how much she meant to him. To the lady who had lost her husband, who after hearing the story on a TV segment was so inspired, the next day she took the courage to take twelve months away from her job and embark on her own travel adventure.
